Sustainability is important to us

As a family enterprise in the third generation, we place special emphasis on sustainable resource management to ensure the security of resources for subsequent generations.

Our main material, cork, is a 100% natural raw material.

  • The production of bottle corks is free of waste. Blanks with flaws find further uses as barrel corks, decorative material, etc. Cork dust resulting from polishing blanks goes 100% into energy production.
  • Corks found to be faulty during production or the proofing process become rejects and are sent forthwith to Fa. Neveon (www.guotech.de) in nearby Nürtingen to be made into, among other things, cork insulation material.
  • We are engaged in cork recycling with the Deutsche Korkverband e.V. / German Cork Association (www.natuerlichkork.de) with innumerable Germany-wide cork collection sites.

The energy needed for the production of our stoppers is won largely through our own on-site solar energy panels.

Unneeded surplus electricity from solar panels is fed into the general grid. Cork oaks and their bark store a huge amount of CO². With reference to GÜLTIG’s annual sales of cork this amounts to approximately 30,000 tons or the equivalent of CO² emissions from approximately 20,000 automobiles with a driving performance of 10,000 km per year.

Of the cardboard packaging GÜLTIG uses, 75% comes from recycling; the synthetic bags, required for technical reasons, are manufactured using climate-neutral processes and are 100% recyclable.

We give all aluminium waste or closures not fulfilling our quality standards completely into recycling.

Generally speaking, 92% of aluminum stoppers in Germany are sent into recycling and, consequently, put to other uses.

Our conscientious use of resources led to our being awarded
the Certificate of Sustainability and Economy since 2020.
